Hi,

We’re running IFS10 and want to make sure that material for a specific Work Center is reserved from a production line. This works fine for us if we don’t connect the material line to an operation. As soon as we connect it to an operation the reservation is unsuccessful.

RMB on the row and selecting “Reserve” leads to below information message and the row is not reserved, notice that the row is connected to Operation 10.

If we remove Operation 10 from the row and selectes RMB “Reserve” again the row is successfully reserved.

In the Operations tab operation 10 has been setup.

The Production Line has been setup with the produced part and the component we’re trying to reserve.

And the Work Center has been setup using the production line.

Are we missing anything, or is it not possible to reserve material from production lines if the material is connected to an operation number?

Great to see you on the IFS community George!

First just need to verify what the Reserve/Issue Method is set to for the component part. If you want it to be reserved (and never backflushed without a prior reservation) I suggest it is set to Reserve.

Reservation and backflush follows a hierarchy where the system could be configured to stop at any level:

  1. Reserve/Issue From Location - If any location is defined on the material line, system will primarily try to reserve from here. If you want to restrict the logic from reserving from any other location, the Reserve Issue From drop-down on Inventory Part/Manufacturing tab should be set to Only Specified Location
  2. Work Center Inbound Locations - Only applicable if the material is operation connected. system will try to reserve from the location(s) defined as Inbound locations on the work center. If you want to restrict the logic from reserving from any other location, set the Outside Reserve/Backflush on the Work Center page to Not Allowed (or Backflush Allowed).
  3. Production Line Locations - Only applicable if the material is operation connected and the work center and part is connected to a Production Line. The inbound location(s) and Outside Reserve/Backflush can be setup similar as for work center.
  4. Floor Stock Locations - Any location classified as Floor Stock. If you want to restrict the logic from reserving from any other location, the Reserve Issue From drop-down on Inventory Part/Manufacturing tab should be set to Only Floor Stock.
  5. Picking Locations

Looking at your screenshots it looks like you have set the Outside Reserve/Backflush on the Work Center page to Not Allowed. This would mean logic stops at step 2 and will not continue to production line locations.

Thank you Björn, looking at it now it’s an obvious mistake from our side! The Outside Reserve/Backflush on Work Center was wrongly configured. Thank you for your quick help and please say hello to all old colleagues from me!
