Hi,

IFS Cloud 25R2

The company purchases components from the supplier in boxes. The warehouse also delivers the components to the production floor in boxes. However, the components are issued to the shop order in pieces. Ideally, each box should contain 100 pcs only.

Please note that these items are very small in size but have significant value.

We currently have a few scenarios that need to be addressed:

  1. Issuing to the Shop Order
Components should be issued to the shop order in pieces.

  2. Returning Unconsumed Components
At times, a full box of 100 pcs is not consumed. In such cases, the remaining pieces need to be returned to the warehouse.

For example, if 80 pcs are consumed, the remaining 20 pcs should be returned to the warehouse.

  3. Shop Orders Requiring Only a Small Quantity
For certain shop orders, only a small quantity, such as 10 pcs, may be required. However, we currently need to bring one full box from the warehouse to the production floor and then handle the remaining quantity as described in Scenario 2 above.

  4. Supplier Sends More Than the Standard Box Quantity
This is a rare scenario: a box is delivered to the production floor, but when the operators open it, they find that it contains 110 pcs instead of the expected 100 pcs because the supplier has supplied it that way.

What would be the best way to handle these scenario in the system?

I guess the box should be a handling unit which then contains the 100 pcs. If you use Move Shop Order Reservations with Transport Task to move the box to the shop floor, there’s an option to include full handling units. I.e., it will include the entire box even if only 10 pcs are reserved to the shop order.

There’s however no similar functionality to automatically return the box with the remaining quantity after production.

Hi @Björn Hultgren,

Thank you for the response.

We are not planning to move to Handling Units at this phase as it is a significant change to the customer.

I’m thinking about using “Input UoM” but not sure whether it will cover all the scenarios.

And yes, Move Shop Order Reservations with Transport Task is already included in our solution design, as they want to track the movement of reserved materials from WH to Production. However, these reserved boxes should be issued to Shop Order as pcs though.

Do you have any idea on how to handle scenario 4 I have mentioned ?
