How are the order based lot numbers created/assigned for items produced on a production schedule???? It appears to be just using a counter somewhere! But where is this set?

Click on Reporting option on the production schedule and there you will find the lot/Batch Number option.
That means you are assigning the lot number manually.. But where does the order absed lot number originate?
