Does anyone have experience or an explanation of how to utilize and use the Manufacturing Tool/Equipment function? We are considering whether this is something we can use in connection with a production where we use forming tools. The idea is that we need to register which forming tools we use in a Shop Order.

Hi @Anders Edvardsen,

Tools can be linked to shop order operations

  • Tools are assigned at operation level, not directly at shop order header
  • You define tools (or tool groups) and connect them to operations
  • These become resource requirements for the operation

Tools can be tracked (check‑out / check‑in) during execution

  • Tools assigned to operations can be:
    • Checked out to the operation
    • Checked back in after usage
  • Usage is logged in history (tracking)

Tool usage can be reported and audited

  • Tool usage is linked to shop orders with tools assigned to operations
  • You can generate a Tool Usage Report per shop order

Reservation & planning logic exists

  • Tools can be reserved for shop order operations
  • Helps ensure availability and avoid conflicts

Be aware that a lot of new developments have been done through the last couple of releases. All of above are not available in 25R1.

This functionality is available in 25R2. Within the Tool/Equipment Group linked to the Manufacturing Tool Group, an option is provided to enable automatic usage recording. When automatic usage recording is activated for a tool, assigning a specific tool/equipment to the shop order tool demand becomes mandatory in order to report operations.
