Labor lead time does not consider in shop order scheduler

Hi,

I know that we can use , Labor time machine time ( which ever the higher) to schdule operations ( start finish time) using APB or CBS.

For “labor only” operations with dummy work center( because  shop order operaiton can not be saved without work center) with 0 machine run factor can be a work around.

Reason dummy work center will not be shown as loaded in visual planning graphs and operators do not need to report time for dummy machine.

But, the drawback is if you do not put “corresponding dummy run factor for dummy work center” , the shop order operation start finish time will be same.

Above post 4 years ago about this  behaviour.

  1. Has anything done about this in core solution?
  2. Are there any future plans?
  3. Any better work around for labor only operations ( need to consider the labor time only for scheduling in shop order infinite scheduler )

Thanks

Hi,

  1. No.. Nothing has changed in Shop Order Infinite Scheduler (SOIS). The same behavior is there even in IFS Cloud 25R2. But you can include MSO into your finite scheduling options list. MSO is also considering labor only operations even without any machine time.
  2. No as far as I know. @Björn Hultgren may have the latest information about this.
  3. If you are concerned about the drawback that you mentioned in your workaround, you can consider setting the labor hours as machine hours in a dummy zero-cost work center. This will ensure that the shop order infinite scheduler includes those hours when calculating the start and finish times of the operations. However, operators will then need to report this machine time as part of their labor time reporting.

Thanks!

Lakshan

Thanks Lakshan. The problem with work around is, that the reporting always will show something that is not real ( in shop floor work bench).  Also  visual planning charts will show this work center and booking,.

No short-term plans exist to support pure labor scheduling in the shop order scheduler.

However, I find it difficult to clearly distinguish operations that are purely labor-based. A work center is not just a machine or a group of machines—it represents the physical location where the operation is performed. Even for assembly operations, the work is typically carried out in a dedicated assembly area.

From that perspective, it makes sense to define a work center representing this area for the duration of the assembly. This can be treated as the "machine time" (although the term is not ideal), while the people performing the assembly are defined separately as labor time.

When Work Center is refined as a physical location where work is performed or a grouping of resources (machines, labor, tools) or in other words as a capacity planning unit, then pure labor scheduling is already in place in IFS shop order infinite scheduler. Isn’t it?
Then application should allow the users to set-up work centers without a resource. Currently it is not possible. So that is the location where we need to handle in the core solution.
