We dont know what triggered the system to change the status NCR status spontaneously.

No, this is not possible in the client. In important individual cases, you would have to manually change the status back to "InProgress" directly in the DB. However, this should only be done in extreme cases.
It is usually advisable to duplicate the NCR and store a comment in the notes.
