Hi

were are currently in the process of upgrading to apps 10 and ran into an issue.

All of our inventory parts are set to Part Type “Purchased” - as we sometimes will buy and other times build the same part. We also have both Purchased & Manufactured product Structures for each of these parts.

When quoting customers we use a business opportunity that we link to an Estimate (if we are manufacturing the part). In doing so, the estimated end item will use the default part type as being purchased (rather than manufactured) and will not allow the user to update it to Manufactured Part Type.

So when the user builds the product structure - they are building the purchased part structure instead of the manufactured product structure.

IFS recommended we simply update the Part Type to be Manufactured on the inventory part record. This resolves the issue on the estimate but creates another problem for procurement since the part is now manufactured and it is no longer considered for stock replenishment re-order and will not create a purchase requistion for it.

Has anyone run into anything similar and would be willing to share how they were able to resolve it?.

You can use a manufactured part through the purchasing process. For that change the Part Type of the inventory part to “Purchased” and save. This will create a product structure header with type “Purchase” and a purchase part. There will be 2 product structure headers. One with type “manufacturing”  and the of type “purchasing” part. Manufacturing structure will be used when the part is manufactured, and the purchasing structure is used when the components of the purchased part should be planned and sent to the supplier with the purchase order.

Connect a supplier for the part using supplier for purchase part window.

If the main sourcing method of the part is to manufacture it, change the Part Type back to “Manufactured” (this will not remove the purchase part, thus it will still allow purchasing of the item).

Agreeing with and building on Anushka’s answer, I tested creating a manufactured part but splitting the supply.

My setup was to set the part as manufactured but use the supply split option in the planning tabe. You cannot say it is 100% acquired if the part is set to manufactured, but you can set it to 50/50 (or1/99 if you prefer) which will create purchase requisitions based on planning parameters?
