How to adjust the sequence for serialized parts

Hello all,

How can we adjust the serial number sequence for serialized products?

The serial numbers need to be unique, but when Auto-generate is selected, all serialized parts start at number 1.

For example:
Part 1 starts at 10,000
Part 2 starts at 20,000
etc.

Is there a UI where this can be managed?

Creating the first serial number manually and then switching to auto-generate is not possible due to the large number of serialized parts.

Kind regards,
Willem

Hi @12gWilleD,

The standard logic will identify the highest existing serial number for the part and start the generation from the highest existing serial number +1.

So, for every order, auto generated serials will not start from 1.

If the last serial reserved for a shop order is 10, if you auto generate it for the next order, the serials will start from 11.

And I do not think there is a UI to match your requirement but let's see what the others got.

Agreeing with @Yathartha Karunananda , in Shop Order we can decide from serial to start and end, isnt it.

Yes I also agree, but that is a manual action.

I would like to manipulate the starting point for these sequences in an UI.

I can do this per product, when I have the first shop order, create the serial number manually and after that switch to auto generate. But there are too many parts to do this in an efficient way.

Hi @12gWilleD ,

So are you looking for a option to do this in efficient way rather than manual.

Hi Willem,

Within the context of Manufacturing (for Purchasing similar methods exists) with the method SerialNoReservationVirtualInsertRequest in the SerialReservationHandling projection you can determine which SerialNo is being created. So theoretically you can create a custom LU with PartNos and  SerialNo Sequence value, then create a workflow that reserves Serials on the SO (for example when the SO status is set to Started) and update the Sequence value in the custom LU.

Upon receipt the reserved serials are used when creating stock records.

I do not really work with BPA so I am not 100% sure if it really would work, but with our own workflow tool we have resolved similar requirements.
