Hello Everyone,

I would like to know how IFS Alternate Structure Works?

I have BOM set up like below for item 123

Structure A        Structure B
Item X        Item X1

item Y        Item Y
Item Z        Item Z

We do keep of stock item X and X1 As well.

Item X can be converted to X1 via doing some sub contract work.

Our by default  Structure is A.

since we have stock of certain parts on X1 I want to create Alternate structure B So that if when demand arise for Part 123.. if I have stock of  item X1 then  MRP should put Structure B but if there is no stock of item X1 then it should go by default Structure A.

I am no sure what is the best way to set up this arrangement in IFS 9?

or what is the other way to let MRP know to use  X1 instead of X until the stock last ??

Any idea would be welcomed!

Thanks,

Hi @IFSFAN,

Instead of using separate structures, you can define item X1 as an alternate part of item X.

Thank you @Yathartha Karunananda   it is not very straight forward as it sounds !!

Part X become part X1 during the Routing operations of current structure  ,since we have some semifinished parts in stock which is X1  ,I want MRP to use those parts instead of starting from scratch if that make sense!!!.

Just an example if you have plastic/metal  part (X) needs to paint and assemble in one structure now you have some painted parts (X1) in stock you want MRP to pick the structure which has painted part   and no painting operations but only the assembly operation.

Since the part X get used in various BOM with various color option you cant make X1 as alternate of X as it will impact lot of other structure which you dont want.

I hope I was able to explain the issue and required solution better this time.
