Enabling Context Substitution Variables on QIS parameters

Forum|alt.badge.img+1

Hi,

when using a standard dimension/fact item as a report parameter, relevant context substitution variables will be visible to choose as the default value.

However, when a QIS is created based on an IAL, this is not possible. Here, the DIM_COMPANY dimensions was connected to the QIS from custom dimension connections oage.

Is this a framework limitation? Is there any setting or workaround to achieve this behavior?

Best Regards,
Nisansala

Hi @Nisansala

Given below are the steps that I followed. You can follow the same steps and check whether Context Substitution Variables are enabled.

  1. Create an IAL Object
  1. Create a Quick Information Source based on the IAL
  1.  Connect DIM_COMPANY from the Custom Dimension Connections page
  1. Refresh Information Sources from BR Client using the Refresh All button in BR ribbon

Context Substitution Variables were visible in the list of Values Pane

Thank You

Hi @Nisansala

We have created a QIS based on an IAL and connected DIM_COMPANY dimension from Custom Dimension Connections page. Context Substitution Variables were visible when a parameter was created from DIM_COMPANY.CODE.

Could you please check whether the Join Info and the Join Info Details are added accurately in the Custom Dimension Connections?

Thank You

Hi @shwiclk ,

Thanks for the prompt response.

Yes, I have created the connection exact same way as you did.

But the issue persists. Is there any other setting that could affect this?

Best Regards,
Nisansala

Hi @shwiclk,

I created another IAL with the exact same query, and this time it worked. It might have been a one-off issue. However, this has happened frequently when setting CSVs as default values for BR parameters.

Thanks for your support on this.

Best Regards,
Nisansala
