Does anyone assign licenses to Task definitions? I can see some functionality around filtering work and resource/capacity planning, is there any other useful functionality that comes with the application of licenses?

I believe there is a Maintenix customer that requires a ‘type’ license for the technicians to sign off work, and they have connected their LMS (Learning Management System) to those licenses so as the technicians complete the initial familiarization class they are granted the license, and at the time of expiry their license (lack of) will prevent them from completing work until they successfully completing the annual recurrent training in their LMS and it sends over the updated license.

@sureamiceman thanks for the reply make sense and sounds a good use off.

Am I right in thinking users could still sign for Work Performed but not the Certification of tasks with an expired license?

I am looking for a more robust explanation but in chatting with my team and the quick search in the user guide, a License is applied to the aircraft type, and without a valid license the user cannot complete the work. They can sign for what was done, but to your point, it cannot be ‘certified’ without a license. (EDITED)

These licenses have more granular control than a Skill in Maintenix because you CAN set it up to expire, and require proof or completion of things in order to be granted the license for the fleet type.

I hope that helps!

We tested Licences against JICs with an earlier version of Maintenix (8.2 SP3 I think). We were wanting to control certain activities like Engine Ground Running which requires a special authorisation.

What we found was that Technicians who did not hold the Licence could complete the Task. However, for the Certification of the Task the Certifier needed to hold the Licence for the JIC.

As the functionality did not apply the same restrictions to the Technician we did not use Licences against Task Definitions.
