Hi Team,

Is there any standard way of doing effort estimation for IFS Implementation Project?

If yes, what is that? Do we calculate the effort, based on CRIM objects? How Complexity of development work has been measured? Is there any Benchmarking of effort estimation in IFS ?

Please advise.

Here are few methods of estimating IFS Cloud Implementation projects:

  • Ask IFS – IFS provides estimation analysis as a service for CRIM items.
  • Ask partners – IFS partners can also provide estimates for full implementations, generally at no cost.
  • Try some – Complete several CRIMs with various complexities to get an idea of see how long they will take for development & testing.
  • Full-time resources – Will need certain roles like Business Analysts, Project Managers, Technical Mangers, etc. throughout project.
  • Compare with others – You could speak with references and other customers to find out what their implementations took.

We organized our mods and interfaces by complexity, as noted below and found the development and unit testing hours fell into these ranges:

  • Very-high: >250 hours – Our most complex mods and interfaces took up to 700 developer hours.
  • High: 100-249 hours
  • Medium: 40-100 hours
  • Low: 20-40 hours

Each of these also requires maybe 20-40% time from Business Analysts and Software Testers to create business requirements documents (“BRD”)s and to complete testing. A significant amount of time is also required for data migration, at least 1,500 hours I believe.
