Question

Stopping a search in Cloud

Forum|alt.badge.img+10

Ok this might seem a silly question, but a user asked me and I did not know what to tell them.

How do you stop a seach in Cloud?  In IEE there was an X...but in Cloud there is nothing.

Does closing the tab do it?  Cannot see that closing the tab would halt a server call.

We are currently in the upgrade process and users are testing...and asking questions.

Hi @chajash,

In the IFS cloud interface, i could not see a direct option to stop an ongoing search midway. However, you can modify the search behavior by adjusting the search settings.

By selecting the "Only when Search button pressed" option, the data will be retrieved only when the Search button is explicitly clicked.

Alternatively, you can simply click the Back button in your browser to navigate to the previous screen, which will stop the ongoing search as well.

Best Regards,
Asjath

Hi @chajash,

Kindly note that clicking the Back button in your browser while data is populating on an IFS Cloud page is generally not recommended.
However, if the system is taking too long to respond and there is no "Cancel" or "Stop" option available, you may use the Back button as a last resort to navigate away from the page.

Best Regards,
Asjath

I wouldn't say it's not recommended, since there's no harm done. But the search process is not stopped in the server just because the user navigates away, as Asjath said.

It might be good to know about this so that the user doesn't just go back then forward again, or reload the page and try with the same (possibly heavy) search again, thinking it will be better this time. That would put further load on the system, making the old search process, if it's still running, slower, and also affect other users to some extent.

Does this mean there is no way to stop the search process?

@jtobin  Does not seem like it.  You can navigate away from the page, which is an improvement...BUT closing the page or using the back button does not halt the server call.

@Mathias Dahl @Mohamed Asjath does killing the session effectively kill the server call?
