TOP Template Part Number

The configuration of an engine can be managed using one VIM structure (so 1 top level) and the modules can be set up as separate templates which will allow the configuration of alternate modules. Each alternate module will be defined with it’s own set of valid alternate parts. Thus, the hierarchy of an engine and its configuration can be managed within one top template structure.
Multiple stress ratings can be defined and managed within IFS.

There are a couple of options that could be explored:

1. As the structure hierarchy seems to be the same (same sub-structure at the lower levels). Create 1 top part, say GEnx Engine, and then manage the different ratings via using multiple stress ratings (say, 1B64P1, 1B75/75P1...). Set up the sub-assemblies as separate templates. Each alternate sub-assembly would then have it’s own prime & valid alternate parts.
    
2. If there is a necessity to set up the different part numbers then an option could be a add 1 ‘dummy’ top part that would sit above your GEnx prime part adding part numbers GEnx-1B64P1 and GEnx-1B74/75P1 as alternates and configuring all the modules as separate templates.

Further analysis will be needed to ensure that the most suitable solution is chosen, but hopefully these details are helpful.

If the top part is the dummy, I think this would be the first thing to disassemble, but is that understanding correct?
