If i have understood your question correctly, are you asking how to differentiate the error, information and system messages?

If we think about the differences, I can see below differences on these messages.
Alerts are instant messages appearing in the bottom right hand side of a page when doing a certain operation/activity. It will give the notification to the user as a confirmation, warning, or an error. These messages have colour codes for an easy separation. Ex: Green – Confirmation, Red – Error.
The Notification panel shows active messages for the user and is accessed from the Application Menu bar, Notifications icon. It has direct access to message overview pages – Notifications, Tasks, Scheduled Reports, Report Archive and Subscriptions.
