Hi,

We are new to IFS and should be going live later this year. I have been tasked with setting up a test printer to use within IFS. I have followed the notes on how to configure/install .Net based Print Agents.

The bit I don’t understand is the Logical and Physical Printer fields, i’m not sure what to fill in here. I have a Windows 2019 server running as a print server. I have an office printer that has its own IP address and I can print to it from the Windows 2019 server and its set up with a share name of \\servername\ifs_test_printer\

What configuration do I need to do on the IFS print agent to get them to communicate.

Thanks

Mark

Hi Darshana,

Thanks for the reply. Can you tell me what wit.ifsworld.com is please ? I have not come across this website before and it is asking for login credentials.

Mark

Hi @MarkM,

You can access the same documents Darshana mentioned above from publicly available documentation at docs.ifs.com.

Regarding your question, a Logical Printer is basically a virtual printer defined within IFS Applications. It allows you to define certain rules within the application related to printing such as assigning certain printers to certain reports or certain users etc. Each user defined Logical Printer is mapped to an actual physical printer so that when you print to a certain Logical Printer, it would be routed to that mapped physical printer to do the actual printing.

Logical to Physical Printer mapping is done in the Print Agent, which basically specifies, if you print to THIS Logical Printer from IFS Applications, the printout should come out of THIS physical printer.

Following documentation provides more details on this:

Hope this helps!
