Regarding Formatting Capabilities in IFS Cloud 24R2

Dear All,

In the previously used IFS Applications 9 (APP9), it was possible to configure detailed formatting settings for screen fields, such as:

* Background color changes
* Text color changes
* Font weight changes (e.g., bold text)
* Conditional formatting
* Cell-level highlighting

In IFS Cloud 24R2 (Aurena UI), we have confirmed that Conditional Formatting and Emphasis-based background highlighting are available. However, we could not find functionality equivalent to the detailed formatting options available in APP9.

Therefore, if anyone knows about the following points, please let me know.

[Questions]

  1.  In standard IFS Cloud 24R2 functionality, is it possible to change text color or font weight (e.g., bold text)?
  2. Is our understanding correct that the current standard Aurena functionality mainly supports background-color-based highlighting and Emphasis features only?
  3. Is there any standard functionality or recommended approach to achieve APP9-level flexible formatting features, such as arbitrary text colors, font customization, or detailed cell formatting?
  4. Even when using Cust layer customization or other customization methods, are there any architectural limitations within Aurena UI that prevent implementing such formatting capabilities?
  5. Are there any plans on the product roadmap to support more flexible formatting functionality similar to APP9 in future releases?

For reference, we have reviewed the official IFS documentation and other IFS Community discussions regarding Conditional Formatting and Emphasis-based highlighting.

However, we could not find clear information about text color or font formatting capabilities.

I would be grateful if anyone who knows something about this question could let me know.

Hi @Sara Iigusa,

1. Regarding changing text color or font weight (e.g., bold text)
In standard IFS Cloud 24R2 (Aurena UI), there is no built‑in functionality to directly control text-level styling such as changing font color or applying font weight (e.g., bold) at field level. The UI framework is designed around a declarative metadata model where such granular styling controls commonly available in IFS Applications 9 are not exposed as configurable options in the standard feature set.

2. Regarding current focus of Aurena formatting capabilities
Yes, your understanding is correct. The standard functionality in Aurena primarily supports emphasis-driven visual cues, such as conditional formatting and background highlighting. These mechanisms are intended to guide users’ attention through predefined emphasis states rather than allowing arbitrary UI styling. The design approach aligns with a consistent and simplified UX model rather than flexible per-field formatting.

3. Regarding achieving APP9-level flexible formatting
There is currently no standard or recommended approach in IFS Cloud to replicate the same level of flexible formatting that existed in APP9 (e.g., arbitrary text colors, font customization, or detailed cell-level formatting). The Aurena framework intentionally restricts such flexibility to maintain uniformity, responsiveness, and upgrade safety. Where richer formatting is required, typical alternatives include leveraging reporting tools (e.g., Report Designer layouts) or external visualization/reporting solutions rather than attempting to implement these in transactional UI pages.

4. Regarding architectural limitations in Aurena UI (even with customization)
Yes, there are inherent architectural limitations within the Aurena UI framework that restrict implementation of fine-grained styling even when using Cust-layer customizations. Aurena is built on a metadata-driven, declarative UI model over web technologies (HTML5/OData-based), where direct DOM-level or CSS-level manipulation is not supported through standard extension points. As a result, low-level UI styling control (such as per-cell font manipulation) is not feasible without unsupported modifications, which are not recommended due to upgrade and maintainability risks.

5. Regarding roadmap for more flexible formatting features
Based on currently available information, there is no confirmed roadmap commitment to introduce APP9-style flexible formatting capabilities in Aurena. The product direction has consistently emphasized standardized UI behavior, accessibility, and maintainability over granular customization. While incremental UI enhancements may continue to evolve, any major shift toward fully flexible styling similar to APP9 has not been indicated as part of the standard evolution path.
