Under our previous IFS APPS 8 system we maintained a separate Oracle license and Support agreement for our on-premise Oracle servers, and we were thus eligible to download items from Oracle Technical Network (OTN) such as Oracle database client software for use with e.g. PL/SQL Developer for direct database access. For IFS Cloud we have limited but similar database access via the IFS VPN for working with our cloud application and on our build place dev environments. However, for IFS Cloud we no longer have a direct support agreement with Oracle for IFS. Will we be able to download future versions and updates to the Oracle client software from IFS, as developer support items? I have searched the community and the Developer tools areas without finding any reference to this.

I have 1 license of Oracle Database Personal Edition -Named User Plus Perpetual just for this purpose. The renewal runs around 150/year

I’m pretty sure you are allowed to download tools to access the ASFU license as long as you don’t use the tools to modify anything in the database that breaks the Oracle ASFU license agreement or IFS license agreement.

Developer tools

You may download tools from OTN such as:

  • SQL*Plus
  • Oracle Instant Client
  • JDBC / ODP.NET drivers
  • SQL Developer

While my previous experience with OTN was as I suggested, I have been able to download clients from Oracle today without a support identifier, so getting hold of the download isn’t the problem currently. However, the license terms that Oracle pop-up while getting downloads suggests to me that we might be better off maintaining some sort of license while we use the tools to access our environments in line with the ASFU agreement, even if its only the named user license referred to by Alex. Thanks for your responses :)
