Hello,

Has anyone configured the Prometheus instance included with IFS Cloud Monitoring to send Kubernetes metrics to an Azure Monitor Workspace using Prometheus remote_write?

Our environment is running IFS Cloud 25.2.10 with IFS Monitoring installed. On the Azure side, we already have the Azure Monitor Workspace, DCR/metrics ingestion endpoint, and authentication resources configured.

Our goal is to establish a real-time metrics pipeline from the IFS Kubernetes environment to Azure Monitor, so that the metrics can ultimately be visualized centrally in Azure Managed Grafana.

We have experimented with the grafana-azureprometheus-datasource plugin and with modifying the Prometheus configuration, but without success. We would prefer not to modify generated ConfigMaps or Prometheus resources directly, as these changes may be overwritten when the IFS Monitoring Helm deployment is reapplied or upgraded.

Ideally, we are looking for a supported way to add something equivalent to:

prometheus:

  prometheusSpec:

    remoteWrite:

      - url: "<Azure Monitor metrics ingestion endpoint>"

        azureAd:

          …

We are not tied specifically to remote_write. If there is a better supported approach for sending Kubernetes/Prometheus metrics directly from the IFS Middletier environment to Azure Monitor, that would work as well.

Has anyone implemented this with IFS Cloud Monitoring, or is there a recommended place in the IFS Monitoring configuration/Helm values to persist this configuration?

Any examples or guidance would be appreciated.

Br, Veeti

Claude suggested this when i pointed to my ifs-monitoring helm chart and added your question.
"C:\remote\ifsroot\infrastructure\ifs-monitoring"

this change should go into:
"C:\remote\ifsroot\config\ifs-monitoring-values.yaml"

kube-prometheus-stack:
  prometheus:
    prometheusSpec:
      additionalRemoteWrite:
        - url: "https://<dce-name>.<region>.metrics.ingest.monitor.azure.com/dataCollectionRules/<dcr-immutable-id>/streams/Microsoft-PrometheusMetrics/api/v1/write?api-version=2023-04-24"
          azureAd:
            cloud: AzurePublic
            oauth:
              clientId: "<app-registration-client-id>"
              clientSecret:
name: azure-monitor-remote-write   # K8s Secret in the monitoring namespace
                key: client-secret
              tenantId: "<tenant-id>"
          queueConfig:
            maxSamplesPerSend: 1000
            capacity: 10000
writeRelabelConfigs:      # optional, to limit ingestion cost
            - sourceLabels: [__name__]
              regex: "(kube_.*|container_.*|node_.*|ifs_.*)"
              action: keep

Not tried it - no support!
Good Luck!
