Dear IFS community,

We are running our production application, IFS Cloud (Remote Operating Model - MicroK8s cluster), on an Ubuntu Server 22.04.5 LTS. For our integrations monitoring purposes, we plan to implement Python-based scripts and run them inside Docker containers. To achieve this, we are considering installing Docker and Docker Compose on the same server where MicroK8s (IFS Cloud application) is currently operating.

Could you please confirm/advise:

  • Are there any known conflicts or compatibility issues between Docker/Docker Compose and MicroK8s in this setup?
  • Is it safe and supported to run Docker alongside MicroK8s on the same production server?
  • Are there any best practices or recommendations from IFS regarding resource allocation or isolation in such a configuration?
  • If this is not the best practice approach to monitor integrations, can you recommend a better one?

Our product version: 24.2.1

This is a bit of a grey area…
If you choose to install docker and your own containers, you need to be aware of how that might affect the HW sizing. Also as minimum make sure not to use any of the ports here https://docs.ifs.com/techdocs/25r2/070_remote_deploy/010_installing_fresh_system/030_preparing_server/50_management_server/008_Network_Ports/

Any issues in the future related to ports and memory should probably be reproduced with dockers systemctl service completely shutdown. Make sure docker is also shutdown while upgrading microk8s in the future.
