Please find attached, platform recommendations for Apps 10 (DB and MW Server).
Hardware sizing depends on client to client and you need to work with IFS or an IFS Partner, who can make the right recommendations based on reviewing your current Apps 8 environment.
Technically, there are lot of advantages running Apps 10 since it is faster with lot of new functionality. Your biggest advantage is to be able to host IFS 10 on a supported OS, Oracle & IFS technologies. Your Apps 8 must be running on OS and Oracle DB versions which may be out of warranty or reaching end of warranty.

I would suggest from experience a couple GB more RAM on the DB server than the IFS standard recommendations, and then make sure you have a couple GB spare for the OS after assigning RAM to Oracle e.g. if your DB server has 20 GB RAM, allocate 16GB to Oracle, and 4GB to the OS etc.
