The documentation from 21R2 hinted at a great feature we could use:
Oracle Edition-based Redefinition¶
Beginning with IFS Cloud 21R1, IFS offers framework support for Oracle Edition-based Redefinition.
Oracle Edition-based Redefinition (EBR) allows online application patching and upgrades with uninterrupted availability of the application. When the installation of the upgrade is complete, the pre-upgrade application and the post-upgrade application can be used at the same time and as soon as there are no sessions any longer using the pre-upgrade application, it can be retired.
Note, framework support implies that all editionable objects meet the requirements for EBR and they are, from a database perspective, handled as if EBR is used in IFS Cloud. However, full support for EBR in IFS Cloud and the possibility to apply online service updates are not included in this release. It will be delivered in a coming release.
Ever since the Cloud launch, I’ve wondered how we can harness the flexibility of Kubernetes while being burdened by the rigidity of Oracle. This would solve that.
For our in-progress upgrade from 9 to Cloud, I’m forcing our app owner and IAL owner to EDITIONABLE, then fixing the objects this change breaks. However, I just noticed that our 24R2 DEV environment in the Build Place still does not have the users set this way.
Is this idea abandoned?
If so, why?
