Hi All,

I have some questions around the IFS Build place as this is new for me and especially now around the environments.

I know you can have different kind of environments like a Development and a delivery environment within the build place. We have currently a quota of 2 environments within the build place. Is this maximum of 2 than for the combination of all type of environments or does certain environment types don’t count for this maximum of 2 environments?

Further we have at this moment several Roll-outs ongoing as well as a service organization for improvements on the current live situation. Because on this we are thinking about requesting additional Build place environments. What is you experience on this and is this necessary if you have different development projects ongoing?

Thank you for your help.

Regards,

Robin

Hi,

You can check the allocated quota for each environment type in the build place > settings > Environments Quota section

I can use 2 from my total environment quota by allocating 1 as a Delivery environment and 1 as a QA environment at the same time, until they expire. But I won’t be able to use both slots as QA environments that’s not allowed based on the current quota setup.

If you need more build environments, you can request additional ones through IFS by specifying the environment type. Just raise a ticket to IFS for more info keep in mind there will be extra costs and a sales process involved.

Hey Robin,

It isn’t specific enough for my liking but the documentation you are looking for can be found here:

https://docs.ifs.com/techdocs/ale/020_lifecycle/050_working_with_environments/#environment_types

In my experience the Total Environments Quota covers both DEV and DEL environments.

Increasing your quota could be the right decision for you - I would base the decision on facts. How many developers do you have that will be working in parallel? You may be working on applying a Service Update or Release Update alongside working on multiple customisations/modifications (CRIM work).

Find out from IFS what the turnaround time is for increasing the quota, if it is acceptable then wait until you hit your quota limit and understand the impact that has - does it impact rollout project plans? or system enhancement work delivery dates?

I hope this helps.

Cheers,

Pete
