Document management storage on IFS managed cloud

Unlike in compatibility matrix for IFS Managed Cloud for Apps10 which specifically excludes any other repository type except for DB, in the compatibility matrix for IFS Cloud, there is no explicit exclusion for repository types such as FTP. if this is not an oversight, you can potentially use ftp hosted locally at the customer side to store documents for chose document classes.

Please note that even if this is allowed, you are going to have issues with networking and security. IFS Cloud services will need to have access to the FTP location which will mean that you need to make the FTP location available to the public internet, FTP is not the most secure protocol so you will effectively have a security vulnerability when it comes to the FTP endpoint. 

is there a specific reason why the customer wants to go to local server? Looking forward to the future, a better option would be to opt in for File storage services as a low cost and secure option.

The reason why the customer would like to go to local server is a clearly the cost. For customers which have a lot of documents due to  the cost of the storage space for document management can be a real subject.

FSS utilizing Azure storage was supposed to be a cheaper alternative to DB storage from what i understand. it might help reaching out to one of our cloud enablement colleagues to do a cost benefit analysis to see if it allows the customers to keep everything in the cloud without costing an arm and a leg. Would be good to know what kind of volume we are looking at here as well.

@Mathias Dahl any thoughts on this?

IFS Cloud Services doesn't support any other options than Database and File Storage. The latter means that the files are stored cheaply in Azure Storage (in an account provisioned and connected to your main Azure account used for the IFS-hosted IFS Cloud installation). There will probably never be a way to keep files locally if you use IFS's managed cloud. To keep files locally you need Remote deployment.
