This could be driven by something in the user’s assigned Oracle Profile - either an idle time limit or maybe even a session time limit might be being reached.
Check the Oracle User screen in IFS, identify which Oracle Profile is assigned to a user who had the issue, and then review the details of that profile in the Oracle Profiles screen.
One other possibility might be related to something like a VPN connection being dropped or unstable if the user is working remotely.

Nick,
Thank you for that. We have mobilized our workforce in the last few weeks and are bringing in users through our VPN. What we see is that we have a constant ping to the IFS server without a loss of connection but when this error presents itself we also see an error on our VPN client. Both use Java. I have not seen this with other users in our org.
Thanks
Tom
So unstable VPN at least for some users (could be their local/home config) looks to be the answer then in this case.
Can you setup a RDP Terminal Server for your VPN users to access IFS once they are connected to your VPN, as a workaround?
This rules out any VPN specific issues and will force the RDP session to close and reconnect when there is an issue with VPN.
