Question

Apps9: Gather Statistics taking 12 hours.

Hi, the built-in “Gather Statistics” job (aka, Database_Sys.Execute_Analyze_Schema__) is taking over 12 hours to run. Since it’s a built-in job, does anyone have any ideas why it would be taking so long?

It was scheduled to run every day - they never changed it from the initial install - and I just changed it to run once a month, which should help, but any thoughts?

Thanks!

Hi @KKSloane :)

It may be due to the configuration of the parameters that the job is using.  Can you provide those?

e.g. the percentage and the schemas being included.

Hi @KKSloane,

How long Gather Statistics job takes to complete can depend on the database size & performance, batch queue where the background job belongs, job’s schedule, parameters etc.

You need to investigate each of these areas to determine where the slowness lies.

The param used is “Compute” and under Advanced,  “Schema Owner - Application Owner” . I couldn’t find anywhere where it defined what these were and which to use.

Also, Hi, Nick.

Did you ever get an answer to this question?

We’re in a similar position with long running Database_Sys jobs for Gather Stats and Validate Indexes
