Explanation

This activity is used to specify the company template to be used as the source when creating a new company.
The company template marked as the default template will be suggested automatically. The installation may contain several company templates, and it is important to select the most accurate template to get a company with expected contents. Some of the templates are system defined company templates that are defined during installation/upgrade. All other company templates are user-defined.

Prerequisites

• The company ID, company name, and information on whether the company is a template company must have been previously defined. 

System Effects

• The specified company template will be used by all active components supporting the Create Company process, and the basic data in the template will be used to create company related basic data in these components.
• If the installation consists of a mix of components from different IFS baselines that support the Create Company process in different ways, then a message box will appear to notify the user of this situation. The creation of a company may, in this case, result in inconsistency and errors.
• The company will always be created even if the selected template is not consistent with the business logic of the Application.

Hi, 

I believe the question is why we would create a template company.   Assuming the IFS client has many companies, then it can be helpful to have a template company.  In this you have a company that is only to be used for basic data set up as a source for future company set up activities.   It’s easier to maintain that data in a template company.  

If we don’t use the template company concept, then a client would have some flavor of company that is used as a source for other company creation.  Often times, a company is updated due to local needs, by adding local accounts.    That then becomes what could be seen as a bad data source for new companies.  The template company simply adds another level of controls, as a template company cannot be used for live activity (no vouchers allowed). 

I know many clients simply create a standard company to be used as a master where they copy this. The nice part about the template company is it cannot be used for true finance activity.   It does provide some benefit, especially when a client has many companies. Surely not mandatory. It can be very helpful.
