Hi Experts,

We have one Resoruce with following Travel Hours setup.

There is one activity where  2hr 40 min away but PSO still fails to assign the job with the following explanation. Can you explain why it considers Max Travel to value with is 2.5hr instaed max Travel time 4 hr?

Thanks,

KM

Hi @KAMANUK,

Based on the investigation, the behavior you are seeing is expected due to how PSO evaluates travel constraints.

In this scenario, the travel time from the resource’s start location to the activity is approximately 2 hours 40 minutes, while the configured Max Travel To limit is 2.5 hours (2 hours 30 minutes). Since this value exceeds the configured threshold, PSO considers this a constraint violation.

It is important to note that PSO evaluates individual travel limits (Max Travel To and Max Travel From) before considering the overall Max Travel Time. These individual limits are treated as hard constraints. Therefore, if the travel time for either leg exceeds its respective limit, the assignment will be rejected immediately, and the system will not proceed to evaluate the total travel time.

As a result, even though the total allowed travel time is configured as 4 hours, the activity is not assigned because it already violates the Max Travel To constraint.

If the intention is to allow longer travel to reach certain activities, you may consider adjusting the Max Travel To value to align with the expected travel distances.

Hi @Charith Fernando

Thanks. I may need some further clarification.

Max Travel To – As I understand it, the maximum travel time at the start of a shift i.e. their own travel time before shift Start from home location (2.5hr)

Max Travel Time – As I understand it, this is the maximum travel time allowed from the shift start location (or between jobs during the shift with the parameter change).

In this case, it is set to 4 hours.

Based on this understanding, if an engineer's shift starts at 8:00 AM, they would be allowed to begin travelling from 5:30 AM (2.5 hours before the shift start). They are then allowed a maximum travel time of 4 hours, meaning they should be able to travel up to 4 hours to reach the first job.

For example, if the travel duration from the engineer's start location to the job location is 2 hours 39 minutes, the job should be assignable because it is within the 4-hour travel limit.

However, the assignment fails, and the message indicates that the maximum travel allowed is 2.5 hours, even though the engineer is configured with a 4-hour Max Travel Time.

Have I understood these settings correctly? If not, could you please clarify how these limits are applied and why the job is being rejected in this scenario?

Many Thanks Charith,

KAMA
