We are not able to delete the cancelled assignment, we only want to keep the active or say the completed assignment only.

No, you cannot delete a cancelled assignment. What’s the use case for that? If it’s strictly a display issue (i.e. you don’t want to see Cancelled Assignments) you can add a default search filter to exclude them.
