Morning,

I am trying to clean up the search domains.

What would be the correct order for running the jobs.?

  1. Drop
  2. Synchronized
  3. Optimized
  4. Rebuild

Is it essential to run all the jobs

Hi @Fentiger79 ,

Since you’re planning to clean up the search domains, you can start by disabling them in the same way shown in the screenshot like simply untick the Enable checkbox for each domain.

We usually perform search index drops when the index is corrupted, outdated, or no longer needed like for ifs cloud as it is not available in cloud.

To completely remove a search domain, you’ll also need to drop the search domain index.

Here’s the process we’ve followed:

*Identify the search domains currently available in the system(smallest ones first).

*Each week, disable a set of search domains and wait for feedback from the business.

*If there are no complaints or issues, proceed to drop the search domain index.

It’s best to run these jobs during off-peak hours, as they can be resourc intensive and may impact performance. Also, always check the Search Index Job Log before starting the next job.

I hope this gives you a good idea of how to clean up the search domains. We carried out this process as part of our pre-upgrade activity for a cloud migration project and it worked well for us.
