What is this about?

This post is to inform everyone using or planning to use Instant View that it has NOT been certified against Windows 11.

The problem: support for Java applets is dying

The underlying technology used by Instant View is Oracle AutoVue. This technology is based on Java applets running on the end user's PC, communicating with the AutoVue Server software.

In order to use Java applets and interact with the Oracle AutoVue document viewer, IFS has embedded Internet Explorer inside IFS Enterprise Explorer, via .NET's WebBrowser Control.

In Windows 11, since Internet Explorer has been removed, it's not possible to do certain configuration that's needed to get Java applets to work.

The end result is that we haven't been able to certify Instant View for use with Windows 11.
