Hi All,

I am aware that from version 24R1 onwards, IFS Cloud (Remote Deployed) customers are limited to using only Database and File storage.

I have a defence customer hosted on-premises in the UK. They have operations in both the UK and Australia, and due to legal requirements, they must store documents in external storage within their respective countries, not in the database or cloud.

Is there any limitation whereby remote deployed customers are restricted to use one File storage location?

If so, how can IFS address these legal requirements given that only File storage and Database options are available moving forward?

Thanks,
Chamath

It's true that we deprecated the support for FTP and Shared document repositories. However, the support is not removed yet, and we will not remove it until File Storage has support for multiple SMB shares, or folders.

@Chamath Kuruppuarachchi I believe what you've mentioned is correct, and currently, it only supports setting up one SMB file share. So far, we haven't received any requirement to configure multiple SMB shares. However, it would be better if you could create a ticket with R&D to confirm whether there is any workaround to achieve this request.

@AshenR

The "workaround", if you can call it that, is to keep using FTP and Shared document repositories until the support is removed, if it's a must to have multiple external (not in the database) storage locations in the back end. If multiple external storage locations is not needed, use File Storage.

@Mathias Dahl
We can't setup new repositories with FTP and Shared any more even it is still supported?

This is 24R2

@AanHGTS

This is being discussed in the release notes for 24R2 as well as in our documentation about document file repositories. Have a look and let me know if you have any more questions.

  1. Do you know like roughly when IFS plan to introduce to support File storage for multiple SMB s.

Thanks,

Chamath

It has been postponed and I'll check if there's a new planned release.

Hi @Mathias Dahl

Is there any update on the planned release date for the multiple SMB Locations?

Kind Regards

Amila

Multiple SMB support has not been considered for 25R2, however this is a candidate for the next upcoming Release Update. However, we cannot guarantee that this will be release with it as we are in the process of finalizing the feature that we will plan to include in 26R1.

I have tested Shared Repositories including multiple locations in 25R1 now, and I have a working demo system where this is configured.

The implementation uses a “non-optimal password encryption” that fails on some passwords. If it does, the password used for the share needs to be changed to a less complex one, iterate until you find a working password.
