Can someone help us in understanding the Redline functionality in IFS document management

Hi XitLokesY,

Please find below explanation.

Document Redlining - When editing a original file, you may need to add comments to this file. By using this feature, you can check out a redlining file usually connected with an external application used for redlining. The redlining file can be Checked Out and In by different users. To be able to Check Out the redline file, the user must have access to this feature. The user must at least have View Access to access the document revision. The access for checking out redline files follows the access for viewing original file.

Hope this helps.

Best Regards,

Roshan

Hi @Roshan Madusanka

Thanks for your quick answer. Have few extended questions.

  1. When you edit the Original file from IFS, File gets open from its respective application so from there you can redline the document so how does this IFS redline functionality helps us.
  2. which external application is required to perform the redline. Do we have any freeware.
  3. Request you to share some documents/manuals on the usage of Redline functionality

Hi Lokesh, Fancy seeing you here ;)

First of all we have to install the redline tool RxHighlight in our machine

Then register .xcm as a file type ( the document type should be Redline)  in EDM Basic/ File types

Then we have to point out the exe file of the redline application in Document Management/Basic Data/ User Settings - External redline application.

after this set up is done, when you create a document ( with a file that allows redlining, pdf, autocad) you can use the RMB option Comment to Edit and Check in the comment file.

Perhaps @Mathias Dahl can comment whether process is still the same in Cloud ( do we even have this in cloud? )

We do not have the redline/comment file functionality in IFS Cloud, or Aurena on Apps 10.

Hi @Mathias Dahl

Thanks for the reply.

Lokesh
