Replacements by PM Actions

Hi,

We’re trying to understand how the replacements by PM actions works. Is there any good documentation on it? Couldn’t find it.

We’re wondering if it will still work if the PMs that would be replaced are on different dates.

Do you need to ensure that if PM_1_Yearly is replaced by PM_2_Yearly,  will it do that if PM_1 and PM_2 have different dates?

Thanks

Hi

This functionality is used to associate similar PM actions, where the action in the PM Action field includes the tasks done in the Replaces PM Action field and therefore it is not required to generate the second PM action. Note that the replacement will take place for Calendar, Event and Condition generation but only when both PM actions are selected in the same generation process.

(The current PM action should not be in a connection structure, i.e., it should not be a PM action which is connected to some other PM action/actions.)

For example, this is how a PM action with 2 year interval is replaced by a PM Action with 1 year interval.

PM Action 1 – Needs to do the action every year:

PM Action 2 – Needs to do the action every 2 year:

PM Action 1 replaces PM Action 2:

If you execute calendar generation,  generate a work order for year 2024, then a work order will be created form PM Action 1 (Generatable = Yes).

No work order will be created for PM Action 2 (Generatable = No), and the same work order number will be updated in the maintenance plan line.

Hope this helps.

Best Regards,

Thilini

@Thilini Kumarasinghe  do the replacements have to be on the same day to be replaced or can they be on different dates within the same time period for which calendar generation is run. For example, I have 2 PMs pm 1 and pm 2. PM 1 is monthly on the 1st of the month and PM 2 is quarterly on the 5th of the month. if I set PM1 to be replacement by PM 1, and run calendar generation for a month date range, should I expect PM 2 to replace Pm 1 in the moth they both are going to be generated.

Hi @PIINKADAM

Yes, it is possible. In your example, you can expect PM 2 to replace PM1.

What I noticed was, replacement takes effect only for PM Actions that fall during the same week. In your example, if we take the 1st days of both PM Actions, since it is 1st and 5th - it falls within the same week, so the replacement will take place.

Thanks @Thilini Kumarasinghe for your quick response. Do you know if the week is a setting that can be extended to look within the month?

Hi @PIINKADAM You are most welcome. I looked in the application, but I’m afraid I could not find such a setting.

hello @Thilini Kumarasinghe
We use the IFS 10 here, and when we use days in the interval unit the setting to generate the WO is based on the day, so if both PM Actions are not set in the same it will not work.

When we are using the PM Action in Month/week/year the range of generation is week. Should the interval in days work in the same way?

You can generate for a longer period, but it is the work that is planned for the same week that will be replaced. As you said, if PM_1 is due the 1st and PM_2 is due the 3rd, they will be replaced if those two dates are in the same (planned) week.

You should always get a planned week, no matter which trigger interval you are using. And if the two PM’s are planned for the same week, then the replacement logic should kick in.
