Renaming Serial Part when Serial Exists in Service Management

I’m attempting to rename a serial part (update the serial number) and am unable to.

See screenshot for Fault Message:  “the serial exists in Service Management and cannot be renamed.”

Am I missing something.  Are there steps that can be taken to rename this serial?  There is going to be a salesman that returns from site with incorrect object information.  An incorrect serial object will be created for new PM actions.  We will need to be able to Rename the Serial Parts while retaining the history.  

I’d be grateful for any help or advice on this.

This is a is known limitation. It will definitely be lifted during the next release.

Hope to see this as a feature in an updated roadmap for 26R1 soon..
