PM Action - Pre posting

I think Pre-posting is not available on PM Action because it is a planning object, not a transactional object.it defines the maintenance plan, triggers, and job templates, but it does not carry financial postings because:

• No actual transaction occurs at PM Action stage.
• Pre-postings are linked to real cost transactions (labor, material, purchase) which only happen when a Work Order is generated. 

Therefore, Pre-Posting functionality may design to control financial postings at the Work Order level, not at the PM Action level.

there are preposting for PM group, could that be utilized?

So if an object exists the preposting is taken from there.
If no object but the Task is connected to a Pm Group, the preposting is taken from the PM Group.

Since the object is mandatory on PM Action the PM Group will never be considered, when creating the Task from PM.

My purpose of setting up the pre-posting on PM action level is also for planning purpose. If the changes are required on the transactional level that can be changed on the WO level. If the PM related expenses on particular object is pre-defined to post on a specific account, user doesn’t need to go and change on every WO generated through the PM. Although, on PM generated can be set up to ‘Auto Released’ once it generated. At that scenario, pre-postings are missing at transactional level.

Yes you are right, it will only work when we are using Merge on the PM Action (no objects on the Work Task).

Would you say that having preposting on PM Action would be a better enhancement than building on the preposting capabilties on the Equipment Object?

Yes, I would think it’s a good enhancement to have an ability to change the pre-postings on PM Action level which helps to automate the preventative maintenance flow.

​@NipunGunaratne93  also check your posting controls.  You may work around this depending on what cost you are wanting the preposting on as it could be driven from a field on the PM like work type, maint org, Event etc.  Something to review/test if that helps meet your requirements.  We use “Event” for instance for “shutdowns” vs regular maintenance.    Otherwise watch for cost ctr on Functional object id, I just learned an inactive value could still be used/selected without error until it goes to post a voucher then you learn the hard way it was used.  I have a post on the IDEA wall for this.
