Hello,

My customer manufacture Serial Tracked Inventory Parts (with shop order).

Within the  “Part Serial” screen, you can see the underling structure.

Then, before shipping (via MMR), they want to maintain it with a work order/work task.

So they have created the “Serial Object’s” with “Serial Maintenance Aware” screen.

But when checking the “Equipment Object Navigator”, the underling structure is NOT created automatically.

Is there anyway to make IFS create underling structure? without using Customer Orders.

Many thanks!

Hi @CSPATE

Make Maintenance aware activity is used to set a serial part stored in inventory to Maintenance Aware, thereby making it possible to carry out maintenance tasks on serial parts which are not yet located in the facility. Such objects are moved to inventory, or delivered from IFS/Plant Design.

This can be performed in Serial Maintenance Aware page by quering the relevent part and choosing Make Maintenance Aware option or clicking on the button.

In here, Serial object will be created, Object ID with the combination of Part No & Serial No(Or you can enter an object ID). As per my knowledge here we don’t have an option to connect creating object to a structure. This has to be done manually when the object is created, and you can add the value ‘Belongs to Object’.

Please note object with a current position ‘In Inventory’ cannot be added as a parent object.

And object with a current position ‘In Inventory’ is not allowed to have a parent object.

Hope this helps!

Best Regards,
Roshan

Hi @CSPATE ,

The steps you’ve followed are a bit unclear, but since you've mentioned that the objects are not appearing in the Equipment Object Navigator, I’d like to provide some additional guidance, complementing what Roshan has already shared.

The below information is often related to object structures involving parent and child design objects. Please review the following considerations:

Note: A functional object for a child design object might not be created if the parent design object is still under design and has no operational status. In other words, if the functional parent is not yet defined or completed, the child will not appear as expected.

Requirements for Visibility in the Equipment Object Navigator:

  1. The design status of the object must be set to "Completed".

  2. A valid object level must be connected.

Additional Conditions for Child Objects:

If a child object is expected to appear under a parent object in the Equipment Object Navigator:

  • The functional parent must be defined in the child design object.

  • The design status of the functional parent must already be set to "Completed" before changing the status of the child design object to "Completed".

Resolution Steps:

For objects not currently visible under their respective parent in the Equipment Object Navigator, follow these steps:

  1. Navigate to the Functional Object window.

  2. In the child object, enter the parent object in the "Belongs to Object ID" field.

  3. Once saved, the object should appear correctly under the defined parent in the Equipment Object Navigator.

I hope this information is helpful. If this doesn't address your issue or if you need further clarification, please feel free to reach out.

Best regards,

Supun Ekanayake.

Structure creation is NOT handled with Make Maintenance Aware. This requirement is previously reported and somewhat known to us.

“Make Maintenance Aware” doesn't create underlying structure | IFS Community

Could you please report a community idea.

@Roshan Madusanka @sueklk Thank you both for your response.

Apologies that my steps are not clear. I have attached a word document detailing my steps.

For reference, this customer is on 23R2.

Any questions please do not hesitate to ask.

Thanks

Carla

Hi @CSPATE,

As Mayura previously mentioned, the requirement regarding "Make Maintenance Aware" not creating an underlying structure has been raised as a question.

It would be greatly appreciated if you could post this concern on the IFS Community from a Partner perspective as well. Doing so will help ensure that the Product Development team considers it for future releases.
It would be great if you can post the link here then we can ‘upvote’ it as well.

Hope this helps!

Best Regards,
Roshan
