Hello,

Does anyone have a use case where a Functional Object or structure can remain In Operation however it has limited capability until the relevant objects below it are returned to full service. How is this handled in IFS Cloud?

 Many thanks.

Hi,

by ‘limited capability’ do you mean the object / lower level structure will not be used in other processes such as production?

Hi Asanka,

There are a couple of use cases we have that require an operational status between Out Of Operation and In Operation

  1. A serial object has been set to operational status = ‘Out of Operation’ in preparation for being calibrated. On calibration, it has been allowed back in service but with only up to 60% of its capability. Is there functionality in Cloud to flag this tool as having restrictions in use and make the user aware of that. Setting it back to In Operation doesn't tell the user the whole story when they look at the object in the system.
  2. Similarly, an object could be set to ‘Out Of Operation’ because it is expecting to be serviced as part of PM, however it is still usable while waiting for that service to be completed. Let’s say it is needed during the day, and the tech looks at the system, they will see it as being Out of Operation. Whereas in actuality they may have been able to use it with some limitations at the time.
  3. Thirdly, where there is a structure, if one or more child objects are ‘Out Of Operation’ for servicing, but are non-critical, the overall structure can still be used - however there could be some restriction/limitation that may have to be applied when using it until all the objects below it are returned to service.

Conceptually it is similar to W/D/R – but for  Equipment Objects

Thanks for your help!

Hi,
You might benefit from using ‘Operational Modes’ and ‘Operational Plans’, which allow you to set a mode for an object or a section of a structure. However, I do not have hands-on experience with this functionality, and it is typically associated with PSO or MRB.
This is the basic IFS help documentation: Operational Plan

1.
If the indication you are looking for on the object (especially as you compared it to W/D/R) is mainly to provide information to users (for example, to help someone decide whether they should select the tool for a 4-hour job) you could explore the attribute/parameter capabilities in IFS, such as Technical Characteristics or Measurements.

Technical Characteristics:
An attribute that indicates the object’s capability (for example, as a percentage), selected from a defined list. Users can review this parameter when choosing between available objects.

Measurements:
Similar to Technical Characteristics, but with greater visibility regarding who set the value and when. As you may already know, this can also be used to drive PM.

2.
I am not sure whether the operational status should be changed for the entire day if the object is actually 'not operational' for only part of the day. This may instead require a business process adjustment to properly address the scenario?

3.
Again, you could use attribute capabilities such as Measurements or Technical Characteristics.

I hope this helps,

Asanka
