We have received and request to Deactivate 700+ of products.

Before taking any action in Production we marked 20 Products as Obsolete in QA and asked user to test and user confirmed that he is still able to use the same 20 products.

Could you please guide us what needs to be done so that those products should not be use by technicians.

Hi Firdosh,

The obsolete setting on a product itself does not mean the products can no longer be used by technicians specifically.  It actually means they are no longer sourced from suppliers so you cannot increase stock in the warehouse.

This is mainly to allow consumption of the remaining stock instead of just writing it off.

However, there is an option in the Prompts (Service) module where you can choose to not allow the agents in Mobile access to these parts:

One thing you may look at is changing the logistic status of the product to non-inventory thus would not be able to order it from a warehouse since it will not be stocked in the warehouse.  In other words, the product is known but cannot go through inventory logistics as it is non-inventory.  Obviously this should only be done if the stock level is zero in all the warehouses.

Hello @Phil Seifert ,

Thank you for your quick response. We are using Astea Alliance version 14.0.0.29.

I checked “Prompts (Service)” and “Enable Use of Obsolete Products” is unchecked.

and in Product Center do we need to Uncheck the “Inventory” checkbox from each product.

As I stated above, uncheck this and no logistics processes should be possible though the part can still be looked up.  You would not be able to allocate it or ship it from a warehouse.

Also, you are saying your agent can still use the obsolete part in Mobile Edge with the Prompts (Service) setting disabled?  This agent is in mobile or the backend application?

Hello @Phil Seifert ,

I just confirmed with the user and they said Product is still available in Mobile and technicians are able to access it.

Please log a ticket but if the user reinitialized their mobile client after you changed the prompts (service) to not Enable Use Obsolete, this does not seem correct.

When you say they can access it, are they able to allocate, post it also from Mobile?

Hello @Phil Seifert ,

Just confirmation from user that it’s working as expected.

Thank you so much for your help.
