Internet Explorer support ended on June 15 2022. Why IEE requires it for opening links?

Ah, so we too had this problem and it is solvable by utilising Edge in IE compatibility mode.

Firstly, ensure edge is set to allow ‘Open in Internet Explorer Mode’, in Edge, click the elipses and go to settings then default browser. Under the Internet Explorer compatibility section, turn on the Allow sites to be reloaded in Internet Explorer mode toggle switch. Now below, you can add the URL to the managed sites and this will then automatically select this mode when you open that site - you need to be quite specific here. If it doesn’t work immediately, click on the lobby and edge will open but will fail as usual - click on the elipses and then select open in internet explorer mode - you’ll then get a choice to add it automatically from here. Next time you load the lobby, edge will work without asking any questions.

Now we use this option for a number of sites that don’t work in edge correctly but be aware that the managed sites only last for a month and are deleted. We use a group policy to deposit the managed sites back into the registry automatically so that they never expire. You may need to deploy something like this too for your system.

Can you try googlechrome://www.google.com/  i.e. removing the http  (and googlechromes if replacing https)
