Question

Not possible to select location to "Issue Parts to Repair" from

I have a customer on Apps10 who is using Repair Work Order for non-serialized components.  They are repairing components which they use in their own operations.  the same component part number will thus also be regular spare part material lines on regular work order.

The issue they have is that they use different locations on the same site for repairable components, and components that are ready to be used, but when using “Issue Parts to Repair” on the repair work order, they do not get an option to choose which location to issue from.  This causes the application oftentimes to issue from the good components to the repair work order.  This is obviously not a problem if the component is serialized, as it will then issue that specific serial number.

Is there any way of handling this, e.g. a setting on an inventory location to limit this?

thank you for any help you can provide.

Have you tried using Tools and Equipment? You can’t use inventory locations to put things in but it has great traceability.

Hi Cindy.

No, I have not, and I’m  not sure how that would help.  The process is that the customer receives a (train-)component from the train maintenance process.  This component is placed on the shelf until the component shop is ready to do whatever they need to do to make it operational again.  This all happens internally within their own organization.

When the repair process starts, they want to issue the component to the repair work order, and when the work is completed, they want to return it back to inventory.

The issue on the repair work order should be from a repairable inventory location, the return should be to a usable inventory location.

The problem is that the mentioned function does not allow them to specify from which location to issue the repairablecomponent, and they do frequently see that is issued from the usable location rather than the repairable location.
