Interested to hear how others have handled a requirement for a hierarchical sales part catalog that allows individuals entering Customer Orders to easily search for and bulk add parts.

It seems like Assortments offer the most out of the box functionality as they allow for a hierarchy and if you’re using the Quick Customer Order registration, you can add parts via an Assortment as well as a specific node.

Part Characteristics seems like a ‘simpler’ option, but there is no way to bulk add parts based upon characteristics a user has searched for.

@astfarazt Not implemented anything like what you mean, but what will happen if you create complement parts of some main parts. When ordering I've read that when a main part is orders, the complementary parts are shown to select and add to the order.

This is just an idea, if it works let us know.

Thanks for the suggestion, @eqbstal.  We ended up going with Assortments as it provides a hierarchical way to look at the parts.  It also allows for a process should the customer use the Sales B2B feature in the future (Storefront manager).
