CLOUD 24R1

Scenario:

Prerrequisites: Handling unit type with packaging material part associated and ‘Reusable’ option enabled.

  1. Go to the Inventory part in stock and select a part that has not handling unit connected. Select the option to Pack according to Handling unit Capacity and enter the quantity to pack for an specific Handling unit type.
  2. The part is packed with an specific handling unit ID.
  3. The packaging material of the handling unit type is consumed automatically and issue from the stock
  4. If I go again to the Inventory part in stock and select the part that I have just packed and select ‘Unattach from handling unit’ for unpack, the system will not receive again the packaging part into stock to be able to be used again for another packing. The quantity on hand of the packaging material should not be increased?

Thank you in advance.

Hi,

After unattaching the parts, you need to navigate to Handling Unit page and run the “Receive Packaging Material to Inventory” command in order to restock the packaging material part.

Hi @Upasari thank you for your support.

I also realized that the system does not prevent to use a HU ID, that has been delivered previously  to the Customer. This is correct? I deliver a HU, with capacity for 2 pieces, to the customer. Then, I use the same HU ID to pack parts in my stock (2 pieces). When I create the customer return, the system receives the parts to the previous HU ID that is currently used by another parts and does not take into account the capacity of the HU. Is that correct? is there something that needs to be set up beforehand?

Thank you

Hi,

How can I configure which inventory location of the packaging material is used by the automatic consumption?

Thank you!

Hi @eminuell,

I think, priority goes to if packing material exists in the default location. I haven’t tested that, but better give a try.

Piyal

Hi there.

I have the same issue. I need to indicated default location for the HU packing material for each warehouse ID on the same SITE. I’ve gone through several configurations but non of them seem to have worked.

@eminuell have you managed to find the solution?
@Piyal Perera any othe adviced? Default location doesnt work.

Hi,

I have set Default Availability Control for those locations from which I do not want consumption to occur, and I use a Putaway Zone for automatic reservation.

With this configuration, the system consistently consumes the handling unit stock from my central location.

@Upasari

Can we use the RMA process to return the HU back to inventory after delivering with a shipment?

The intension here is to track all HUs delivered with a particular shipment/CO and make sure to return everything what was delivered.

Susith

Hi @sdinusha,

Not sure if your question is about HUs in general or Packaging Material but I’ll try to explain.

If you choose to return the delivered sales parts via the RMA process then the HU IDs delivered with the shipment will also be captured in the RMA receipt lines. It is not possible to return only the HUs via RMA since the HUs are always attached to the parts.

This also means that we cannot return the HU packaging material via RMA since packaging material inventory parts get used up during the packing process and the customer order lines have no connection to the packaging material inventory parts.

However, you can still retrieve the delivered HU IDs from Inventory Transactions History using the source ref or from the relevant Shipment Handling Unit Structure. And even after delivering the Customer Order shipment, the HU ID information remains in the system without a Location No. or information of the parts that were initially attached and delivered. If you already know the HU IDs that were delivered, then you still can receive the ‘Packaging Material’ to Inventory (If Reusable) using the ‘Receive Packaging Material to Inventory’ command I have described above in this thread. Not a streamlined approach but this works.
