Hello,

On work tasks, the inventory transactions are not reversing automatically out of WIP when the task is closed.  Time transactions on the same work task reverse out of WIP automatically when the task is closed.

I used the Release WIP To Final Accounts + Check and Update Accounting to manually reverse one of the Inventory lines out of WIP. That worked correctly.

Can anyone help with why the Inventory lines are not reversing automatically when the Work Task is set to Finished?

Cost code rule settings:

Many thanks.

Inventory transactions posted to WIP often require Release WIP to Final Accounts to move costs from WIP to final accounts.
If the posting control for inventory is not set to auto-release on task closure, the reversal will not happen automatically.
Common reasons:

  • Posting Control Settings: Inventory postings may be configured for manual release.
  • Work Task Status Behavior: Closing the task does not trigger WIP release for material unless explicitly configured.

Recommended Checks

  • Posting Control for Inventory

Navigate to: Posting Control → Work Order → Inventory Transactions
Check if the rule for WIP release is set to Automatic or Manual.

  • Work Task Closing Settings

In Maintenance Settings, verify if Auto Release WIP on Task Finish is enabled for material transactions.

  • Accounting Rule

Confirm that the Release WIP to Final Accounts process is linked to the task closure event for inventory.
