@a.hutchings we currently don’t have any capability like this, nor any immediate plans. Do you know whether your suggested approach works the same for Android and Windows devices too?
I suggest that you add this as an Idea for consideration as a future capability, but from a solution point of view, it would need to be platform agnostic, hence my question above on Android and Windows.
Thanks,
Rukmal
@Rukmal Fernando Thanks for the input, not sure how ideas are raised to IFS but I am happy to pitch it.
For Android/iOS the approach is similar. An app configuration profile is defined on the MDM. This essentially produces a XML/JSON file for the App which can be consumed with Key Value pairs. Generally the app developer can create logic that looks for these specific keys/values and uses them as the developer wishes. A good example here is to look at how companies deploy Chrome to managed devices. These settings allow them to set bookmarks, default home page etc.
For windows apps my understanding it is the same but serviced via OMA-URI’s. But speaking frankly I think you would need an experienced developer expert to advise how this done for each case.
Hi @a.hutchings just go to Share Your Ideas | IFS Community, create a new idea and paste the above (you may want to paste a link to the idea in this post). The benefit of doing it there is that other people can upvote, helping R&D to prioritize all the different suggestions. Plus there is a defined review process for ideas posted there.
