25R1 Contractor Management - No MWO for Service Contractor Resources?

Hi All,

I have been exploring the new Contractor Management solution in 25R1 for Request Tasks. I like the idea of creating the PO Lines based on actual reported items like time reported of the contractor. There are multiple customers who have modifications for that in the Work Order solution.

But I am supprised to see that in the Release Notes there is a restriction. Which makes it not possible to send the Request Task to the mobile of the Subcontractor Resource...

  • Mobile Work Order for Service Contractor Resources.
    • It is not possible to utilize Mobile Work Order for Service Contractor Resources. Any Request Work Task that is assigned to a Service Contractor cannot be transferred to mobile.

I am looking for the reason why this restriction is build in?

I have customers who wants to have both their own employees and subcontractors to work with the same mobile Service MWO Solution. But that is not possible for subcontracted orders, as described in the Release Restrictions and by my own test to see whether it is actually not possible.

Could someone give me an explanation on why this designed this way and whether the restriction will be removed in a later update/release?

Hi @anmise,

Thank you for quick reponse,  I understand the limitation and happy to hear it will be removed a future release.

Can you already tell us that the limitation will be removed in 25R2?

When you can't tell it now, when will you be able to tell us?

I can tell you that it’s our intention to try to remove this restriction in 25R2. As we’re just starting working on the release, it’s too early to make any definitive commitment, however it’s high on the list of priorities.

Indeed why would this not be possible. In the end, also the contractor time spent on work task should be authorized and from there the purchase order, matching and payment takes place. Why then this limitation?

Hi @Harm de Brouwer 12Guide

the reason it is restricted in this first release is because we have not yet built the functionality for payment lines and contractor orders in the mobile space and thus couldn’t support the functionality properly in time for release. We are planning to remove this restriction in an upcoming release.

Regards

André

Hi Andre @anmise, good to read the restriction will be removed 😀. Just curious though: why are contractor orders and payment lines important in mobile? Third party executes work and reports in mWO, but the orders and payments are in the backoffice, aren’t they? Why would we need functionality for that in mobile?

The payment lines are what a contractor is expected to use for reporting. For a fixed price scenario, you wouldn’t normally expect additional payment lines to be added necessarily, however, they could.
For a time and material scenario, you’d expect a contractor to update existing or create new payment lines based on actual usage. As the financials/transactions work differently when work is subcontracted, we need to handle reporting slightly differently.
We did not get to building a user interface for that in this release, which is why it’s temporarily restricted.
