Has anyone used the IFS Data Migration Manager ETL tool for actual migration projects? I’m looking for feedback on the user experience and the tool’s practical applications.

Hi @japauk

Yes, the IFS Data Migration Manager (ETL tool) is commonly used for migration projects. Below are key insights based on user experience and practical applications:

1. User Experience

  • Provides a structured ETL approach for data migration.
  • Integrates well with IFS Cloud but requires familiarity with IFS data structures.
  • Supports both full and incremental data loads.

2. Practical Applications

  • Used for master data migration (customers, suppliers, items, etc.).
  • Facilitates bulk data transformations and validation checks.
  • Enables real-time synchronization with external systems when configured properly.

3. Example Use Case

A company migrating from an old ERP system to IFS Cloud needed to transfer customer and supplier master data. Using the Data Migration Manager, they:

  1. Extracted customer and supplier data from the legacy system (CSV format).
  2. Transformed the data by mapping old fields to IFS Cloud structures and performing necessary formatting.
  3. Loaded the data into IFS using predefined migration jobs.
  4. Validated the migrated records by running reports and checking for inconsistencies.

4. Key Considerations

  • Performance: Large datasets may require batch processing and optimization.
  • Data Integrity: Validation rules must be set to avoid duplicates and incorrect mappings.
  • Knowledge Requirement: Understanding IFS database structures and data mapping is essential.

Best regards,
