Hi

I was wondering if there was some documentation or suggestions for dealing with First Article Inspection for manufacturing on IFS. I was hoping for something that would help for implementating.

Thanks

Hello, if you are working with Cloud, a standard process for FAI will be available in release 25R1. However, if you don’t have Cloud, I have conducted an analysis of what is necessary to cover this process for our customer.

Here is a list of CRIMs (customizations + custom events + print reports) that should cover the entire FAI process.

CRIMs

  • Print Outputs Form1, Form 2, Form 3 for AS9102 - Required by QA Department

    • FORM1 - FAI Header (Production Order)
    • FORM2 - List of Components and Special Processes (Production Order)
    • FORM3 - List of Measured Values, Tolerances, Non-Conformities, and Measurement Methods (Control Plan - Analysis)
  • Custom Fields

    • New custom field on Inventory part - Subject to FAI/LAI
      • Checkbox TRUE/FALSE
    • New custom field on Shop Order - Order Type
      • Dropdown menu:
        • DFAI
        • FAI
        • LAI
        • DLAI
    • New custom field on Shop Order materials/operations - DFAI (partialy FAI)
      • Checkbox TRUE/FALSE
    • New custom fields on materials/operations in Product Structure and Routing - DFAI (Partialy FAI)
      • Checkbox TRUE/FALSE
    • New custom fields on Shop Order - Required by QA Department
      • Internal FAI number - prefix "FAI" + order number
      • Customer FAI number - Open text field
    • New custom field in Control Plan Analysis - FAI Status
      • OK
      • NOK
      • OK with Non-Conformity
  • BPA (custom events)

    • Automatically marks generated Shop Order as FAI if the system detects that this is the first Shop order for the item, or if two years have passed since the last closed Shop order for the part (operation closure).
      • The system must block receipts from any additional Shop orders for the same item until the FAI is approved.
    • Automatically marks generated Shop Order as DFAI if the system detects that it is the first Shop order for the new version (structure/routing) of the part. The component/operation marking from the product structure where the DFAI checkbox was checked (TRUE) should be transferred.
      • The system must block receipts from any additional Shop orders for the same part until the FAI is approved.
    • Automatic addition of operation for both FAI and DFAI orders - automatically adds control operation for the specialized FAI inspection workcenter

I hope it will be helpful for you

Have you had a look at the control plan functionality?

There is currently no standard process in IFS Cloud for First Article Inspection (FAI). However, FAI according to the AS9102 standard is in the product development backlog to be considered for future releases.

It's also on the roadmap for 25R1, so not sure when you'd require it?

In most cases FAI requires a much more extensive inspection plan than a normal Control Plan. It’s not usually worth the effort needed to create this one-time use Control Plan. I usually recommend creating an inspection document and incorporating it into the engineering records as a document attachment.

I’d agree and disagree at the same time. This to me is industry specific. I have seen control plans and off system methods used. Seems the post is answered anyways with the functionality being added in a future release 👍
