You can always change the company with using navigator.

If it is not pratcital to use navigator, you can try to  add shortcut ‘Change Global Company’ to your shortcut list.

Thank you for the response.  This is what we will do.  

When we change global company and go back into the workbench screen, the new company is correct but the site from the prior company is defaulted.  Any idea why that is happening?

It is because  user’s default site,

I think you will have to select the site, after changing the company each time.

Ozgun explained the functionality, would like to add the following to the answer though.

In Shop Floor Workbench, the default site of the user is set as the Site. It is possible to change the site from the LoV though. But by default, the site is set to the user’s default site disregarding the Global Company.

Here the company is 10 (which is the Global Company) but the default site is 15 for the user. Site 15 is not in the company 10.

This window is normally used by the shop floor employees in the shop floor. Therefore frequent site changes is not relevant to the users who are using this window thus the default site is always displayed.
