Hello,

We are using Apps 10, UPD9.

We need to reserve project inventory to work tasks on our outages. We moved standard inventory into project inventory to keep the inventory reserved to the engagement. When we attempt to reserve the project inventory to the work order, it will not let us reserve this. It is causing us to have a halt in our repairs by not being able to reserve.

We have set the material lines as project inventory, we can see the qty on hand in the project, but when we try to RMB reserve inventory that option is greyed out for us.

We currently have a work around to move it to std inventory to reserve while the work order is connected to a project. But this is VERY painful.

Does anyone know if there is a step we might be missing?

This print screen shows the work order connection to the activity

The Work Task set to Released

RMB > Reserve

but an Information Message is displayed

After getting that message, the items can be reserved manually.  What is preventing the RMB > Reserve action from reserving the items?

Thank you,

Joann

Hello @jtobin,

#. In your first picture, RMB reserve inventory option is greyed out because the “Task Status” is NEW. You need to Release and Start the Task so the “Reserve” option will be visible.

#. In your 3rd picture above where it has 13 qty, I can see Shortage Qty field has value 13. “A shortage quantity will arise when you reserve parts, not using manual reservation, for an order and there is not enough available quantity. It is the difference between the quantity of demanded parts and the reserved parts”

Hence you many need to verify that there are enough stock in Project inventory which are not yet reserved for any. Because in normal scenario, the error should only raise when there are no enough stock in the selected inventory location of the line.

Also you can do the following test in a different TEST environment to verify whether this is an error.

  1. Create a new material line for similar part like HPP000197.
  2. Transfer enough stock to the project activity.
  3. Release the work task.
  4. Now try to Reserve using the RMB and see whether the same error can be seen. (Make sure there are no other lines in the material order to make the flow obvious)

Thanks.

@Kasun Manuranga

Hello, Kasun:

Thank you for your response!  As it turns out, they didn’t have the same project connection in the inventory screen and the work order task.  They were able to correct it by making sure they right activity was assigned in both places.

I am keeping your instructions in my notes for future issues!!!

Thank you,

Joann
